The Gathering Hymn is a perfect song for the opening of a worship service or chapel. I definitely wrote this with a piano in mind as you will notice with some of the 9th chords and bi-chordal textures. These might not translate as well to guitar alone, but certainly could work well with a fuller ensemble.
Much of my hymnody is either reminiscent of German Lutheran or neoimpressionist / French with contemporary harmonic structures. The Gathering Hymn is my venture of bringing a neoimpressionist style together with traditional Gospel chording. My goal is to contrast contemplative and softened textures with the bold, almost anthem-like statements; all the while maintaining simplicity and sing-ability. I hope this is an effective first go. Let me know what you think.
Let me know if you perform it or record it. I'd love to hear about it!
